Day 61 - Listening

We all have our times of getting caught up in the hectic pace of life (some more than others I’m sure). We all find our own unique ways of unwinding whether it be a hobby or habit of some sort. Some of us ladies may unwind with a day of shopping or a long, hot bubble bath- others with a glass of wine- some with all three. A man may unwind with watching sports or playing fantasy leagues or maybe having a couple of beers and a cigar. Teenagers may find peace in their own way by playing video games or chatting on the phone with their friends.

I was going and going today. I had a bit of a busy morning, a nice mid-day tea time with my neighbor followed by a nice long walk. I was party planning since early this morning for the St. Patty’s Day Parade that will go right by my house tomorrow, so we are having some people over and I was getting that all organized and everything situated today.
So, I sat down when everything was done to take a breath before dinner. I was going to pop on the TV for a bit but instead I decided to just sit for a moment. I was looking out of my window and taking in all of the beautiful colors in the sky as the sun made it's descent. The water was an extremely dark blue/grey tonight which made it look especially cold. While I was sitting there, I realized all the sounds my home was being filled with for really being so quiet. There is usually music or TV or talking going on but at this moment it’s just quiet….and yet it’s not.

I decided to just sit a bit and take it all in. I heard the sounds of my clocks ticking, sea birds calling to each other outside and singing about, cars motoring by, random people walking around outside talking and laughing, car doors closing, a horn beeping, music playing from a car and I even heard someone do a loud whistle. I didn’t sit for real long (maybe 20 minutes) but I did sit long enough to simply enjoy the melody of life around me. I must admit, I do love the melody, the hummm and the buzz of the unique blend of downtown city/oceanside living.

It was a good intention for a busy day. I suppose depending on where one lives, each person’s melody of life sounds different. I’m sure the day, season, and hour make the sounds vary as well. I will say, it’s a nice way to ground yourself for even a moment during hectic or stressful times or even just as a break from a lovely day to just sit still, breathe and enjoy life’s sounds. #dontmisslifesmelody #HGAL365
