Day 5 - Spa Day

Since a very young age, I have always been obsessed with fashion, makeup, shoes and the like. Back in 1993, Heather came out to visit me in AZ. After that visit my son Brian and I went back to Chicago with her for 2 months . That summer, I called myself introducing her to all my little ”fashionista” knowledge. Heather was never really interested in wearing tons of makeup. At that time, she was perfectly content with her lipstick and mascara. She was always such an absolute natural beauty. She also had an amazing style all of her own which was a diverse mixture that could be described by using the song title by TLC, “CrazySexyCool”. One day she’d be in a dress, the next day she’d be rockin a style like Left Eye, or kickin it in jeans with a cropped shirt. Either way, she was always flawless! And while it seemed to take me an hour or so to figure out…she was good to go in 15 min. Gotta love it!

I remember her as a little girl, she was so girlie-girlie with those ribbon wrapped barrettes that had dangling ribbons and beads (if you grew up in the early 80’s you know EXACTLY what I’m talking about)- those were her favorite accessory for her long, ebony locks. She was always so happy to share them with me when I came over. Back then, charm necklaces were also very popular and when we used to play, we would hook the charms on our earlobes (ouch is right) and pretend like we had on long dangly earrings. We had so much fun as kids.

So….back to that Chicago summer. I arrived in Chicago well equipped with my wide variety of face products, nail products and hair products. Although my son was still quite small, Heather and I had so much fun doing each-others hair, painting our nails and toenails, experimenting with make-up, listening to music, going to the mall, etc. etc. etc. It was a lot calmer than when she was in AZ cause we were so busy all the time doing all the “touristy” stuff. Throughout the upcoming blog posts, I’m sure I will be sharing quite a few things from that summer because it was amazing and filled with awesome memories.

So, with all of that in mind, today’s intention is to have a “mini-home spa day” in her honor.

So, after my morning workout and shower, I made my favorite cup of Orange Blossom and Jasmine tea. Although it’s cold outside, it’s sunny and beautiful. I can see the ocean from my large sliders and I stand there a moment to pause and take it all in, I will never tire of this view. I sipped my tea and fondly reflected on that specific summer with Heather.  With music hovering on a low “roar” I decided to begin with a nice protein packed deep conditioner on my hair. I piled all my hair into a nice loose bun. While that was working its magic, I moved to the application of my face mask. It was invigorating! Why don’t I do this more often? I am definitely going to incorporate this is back into my “beauty routine” from here on. Next, I gave myself a manicure and pedicure, finishing off my nails and toenails with a super hot red polish. And to finish it all up, I mixed a very “winter friendly” potion of honey and brown sugar for a fabulous lip scrub/exfoliation. Simple, easy and refreshing.

I am including in today’s blog, a picture of me holding the pictures of Heather and I that summer of ’93 with our lovely face masks on….What a memory, what a summer, what a wonderful human being she was.
