So, first I went to my gym for a spin class. I worked up a
nice cardio sweat, changed clothes, picked up my mom (my camera woman lol) and
headed back to the beach. The instructor greeted me immediately and was so
inviting and friendly. I knew instantly that this was going to be an amazing
experience. She did not disappoint. The moves were easy- fluid and controlled.
Her instruction of breathing and importance of keeping your mind clear of
static chatter and just relaxing into our current status was perfect. The group
seemed to be at many different experience levels but everyone seemed to truly
enjoy their time – but how couldn’t they? It’s Beach Yoga!
Afterwards, my mom and I randomly got into a conversation
with another mother and daughter. They were absolutely sweet as could be and
mentioned that they too would surely be back and thoroughly enjoyed the class
as well. As we were talking about the pictures my mom was taking, I explained
to them the premise of this blog and shared with them the blog address. Again I
find myself blessed to be able to share the memory of my cousin Heather, one of
the best people I have ever known. #HGAL #namaste #anythingonthebeachisamazingbutthiswasbestofallIn memory of my lifelong best friend and cousin who was taken by cancer in 2011, I will be chronicling the next 365 days of my life to live with intention and do something each and every day with my life in her memory.

Day 170 – Beach Yoga
Today for my intention, I chose to participate in a class at
my local beach…a “Beach Yoga” class. Again, I find myself truly grateful for my
blog and embracing the lifestyle of intentional living. This was a fabulous
class. The sun on one side and simultaneously the moon on the other, the sights
and sound of the waves, the sand, the eventual sunset, the breeze and ocean
air, the 16 other friendly ladies participating – I have never been more happy
to have shown up for something new.

Day 169 – Beach Volleyball
Today as I was driving home from the market, windows down-
breeze blowing- sun shining- perfect temperature, as I was passing the beach I
realized there were a ton of people there, more so than usual for a Monday. I
pulled into the parking lot and realized there was an event going on. There
were about 15 or more volleyball nets set up and what appeared to be a
tournament or game of some sort going on.
After parking, I walked the beach for a bit. I just love the
sights, smells and feel of the ocean air- I simply cannot get used to it. There
were so many waves crashing all around and the tide was just starting to come
in. With sand on my feet, hair blowing in the wind and smile planted on my
face- I had the opportunity to enjoy a short conversation with a random couple
passing by. I headed down to the volleyball area. I watched for a bit and reminisced
on how much I used to love playing volleyball when I was on the team in school.
Maybe this is something I can look into one day soon- a local adult league or
team. But for now…. I just allowed myself to enjoy the day, the game, the ocean
and my intention. #HGAL

Day 168 – The Docks
We got home from the Cape mid-afternoon today. The weather
didn’t cooperate for the beach yesterday but our time ended up even better. It
was 4 couples, we ended up staying in, playing an awesome game called Cards
Against Humanity (what a BLAST!!!). Anyhow, we ate loads of Chinese takeout,
drank, ate cupcakes and just had a great evening.
So, for today’s intention….once we got in today, Vinny
wanted to rest up for a busy upcoming week. It’s a bit gray and overcast but
not cold at all, just about mid 60’s which is great to me. So I asked my mom if
she wanted to go for a walk and see what we could find for an intention. As we
walked I asked her if she wanted to go check out the local docks. I have never
been over there, but always hear the seagulls screaming and going nuts in the
morning when the boats come in with their fresh catch.
As we walked over I saw the sign that said that they sell
lobster, crab and more at boat prices. Also, there were picnic tables to one
side with a food truck that offered lobster rolls and a ton of other assorted
sea food. We passed the “Sara Star” charter boat which obviously we just had to
stop and take a picture of. As we walked all the way in the dock area, we saw
some really cool things including large anchors, humongous bobbers, large nets,
stacks and stacks of lobster and crab traps, barrels and boats and so much
more. As we walked away, we came across a small pub that had the neatest
artwork along the outside of the building. It was so rustic and completely raw
and like a scene from a movie.
I just enjoyed the sights, sounds and smells of the dock. It’s
so opposite of everything I grew up around- I am so fond of this New England
lifestyle. We had a great walk and a great intention exploring the docks.

Day 167 - Heading to the Cape
For today’s intention Vinny and I are heading to Cape Cod.
Our friends have a beach house down there and invited us to stay the night with
them and some other friends. We intend
to lay on the beach all day, enjoy laughs and conversation with a bunch of good
people. I am sure we will go out to a nice dinner and simply enjoy the Cape as
it should be. I wanted to get my blog entry written before my day began. #enjoyyourweekend #HGAL

Day 166 – The Towers
So my intention today was actually to go see live music at
the beach with my mom at a beach about 20 minutes away from us in the town of
Narragansett. Well, unfortunately we got there just as they were finished (I
really thought it was longer). But that’s ok we can go another Friday. So we
just walked around the beach area, chatted with a few people and enjoyed the
early evening. As we walked around, I mentioned to her that the couple of times
Vinny and I have come to this beach, we have never gone to the castle looking
building down on the other side of the beach. So, I said “Hey, for my intention
– let’s go see what that building is all about.”
As we approached, I saw a sign that said it was called “The
Towers”. Unfortunately, it was closed for a private event. But wow was it ever
pretty! We walked all around it and noticed that there are also restaurants all
in the vicinity. So, we continued to walk the path around the beach- even
seeing a guy with a trained cat sitting on the ocean wall. It was such a sight
I just had to snap a picture. Lol. Anyhow, the people were super nice and the
beach area was pretty busy but definitely not too much.
So, even though I missed out on my initial intention idea,
it still was a great evening. We came back and met up with Vinny and have been
enjoying this beautiful evening. Narragansett was gorgeous, the towers were
cool and it was nice to have some mom and me time. #cherisheverymoment

Day 165 – Keepsakes
So, I am not the kind of person that saves a whole lot of items
for “memory’s sake”- only a select, very special few. However, when it comes to events and outings- I do have a select few stubs and tickets I have
kept over all the years. I was looking at some of the ticket stubs I have saved
and got such a kick out of some of the places I have been over the years. I
thought to myself how awesome it would have been if I had kept all the concert
stubs, all the event tickets, plays, shows, etc., even plane ticket stubs to
some of my favorite places I’ve traveled to.
Anyhow, when I was looking through these items I noticed
that I still had my ticket to New Years Eve 1993 in Tempe, Arizona that I was
with Heather and some friends at. I still have the Janet Jackson concert ticket that I was with
Heather at as well. I found a picture of us at a Destiny’s Child (and multiple
other performers) concert. Heather and I did so much together and had so much
fun.
For my intention tonight, I decided to go to a local store
and find a really cool way to store, display and continue to collect my
favorite event tickets. I got a beautiful glass and blue ombre colored nautical
type vase. It can sit independent or hang. I put my tickets inside and it ended
up looking super cute. This is such a neat way to remember to keep all the
tickets and stubs from now on and add to the collection. Maybe in 10 more years
or so I will pull them all out and get a real kick out of the many more places
I will have gone by then and think back to this blog day intention. #Cheers

Day 164 – Home Name
Today as I was driving past all the mansions, I noticed
again how they all were named. I thought to myself “I would love to have a name
for my house”. Well tonight was actually
date night. Vinny wanted to take me out and it was an
amazing evening for sure. Our night began at the Red Parrot (our fave!!)
followed by a quick stop by Alex and Ani because as we were walking by Vinny
offered to get me another addition to my collection. Tonight he picked me out a
St. Anthony charm bracelet (his dad was named after St. Anthony). Then we went
on a nice long walk, sat in the park for a bit, sat by the pier by the big
yachts on some Adirondack chairs and ended up going to another bar for a drink,
listening to live music and then to Ben & Jerry’s for some ice cream. We
walked down the long pier across the street from our house to sit on the chairs
at the dock and eat our ice cream. I just love the city/beach life- it’s such
an awesome mix and so very, very convenient!
This was all around a perfect evening. But I digress... As
we sat over dinner, I told Vinny that for my intention I wanted to name our
home. We talked about so many things that would help create the name…the beach,
the bridges, the views, the birds, the sights, the sounds, the downtown
atmosphere, the love, the friendships, the vibe…. But we eventually decided on
a name:
Lavender
Peak.
When we first moved here I bought a small lavender plant at
the local farmers market. It has grown and been repotted, and continued to
thrive and grow into a small tree sized lavender plant. Being that it survived
the insane winter of 2015 and is still thriving we felt like it has earned a
place in our home name. It’s like our home mascot. Then to think of the fact
that we live up so high- we have a bird’s eye view of everything we figured the
word “peak” completed it perfectly.
I am actually so happy with the name we came up with that I
think I will go get a plaque or something and attach it to a wreath to proudly
display this name on our door. #Cheers #lovedatenight #HGAL

Day 163 – Home Grown
I ran across something on Pinterest a while back that shows
how to grow your own veggies at home the super easy way. I made nachos the
other day and bought some green onions. Today I saw the leftovers in my fridge
and decided for my intention that today was the day to start with one veggie to
see if I can grow it at home. If it goes well…I will try more.
So, I logged onto Pinterest and saw how truly easy it says
it is. I grabbed a teacup that I usually use as a treat dish or display. I put
water in it, cut the white tips off the onions and placed them inside the cup.
I put them outside with the rest of my plants to receive the sunshine promised
to our area tomorrow. Once they start to sprout, I will switch them to a glass
dish as instructed.
I am so excited to grow my own veggie! I love that I have a
green thumb now. Vinny taught me a while back the key to growing things and now
my Jasmine, Lavender and so many other plants are thriving and growing and it
is quite a rewarding feeling to be quite honest. Fingers crossed with the green
onions – if it goes well I look forward to adding many more edible plants to
the group! #HGAL

Day 162 – Let It Glow
Tonight, after dinner, as Vinny and I sat on the deck enjoying
the night air and catching up on our days’ activities I noticed how many things
are so beautifully illuminated at night around here. We already had the deck
night lights on and our outdoor chandelier candles lit. I looked around and
noticed the moon, the bright stars, the sailboat masts’ lit up nice and bright,
the large twinkling bridge in the distance and the angelically lit church to
the side of us. All these things were lit up so bright and beautiful- I felt
compelled to get up and turn on the other items I had available to me in my
surrounding area. I turned on our garden roses, my cherry blossom tree just
inside and my salt lamp.
I love ambiance. I absolutely love the feeling of this
evening. There is a certain sense of calm and serenity when the weather is what
it is tonight- 75 degrees and hardly a breath of wind (which is very unusual around
here). As I sit here, writing my blog I almost find myself distracted by the
many sights I am so fond of. I thank God for each and every day I am blessed
with but it nights like tonight I send up a very special “thank you” for giving
me the chance to recognize these moments, relax and enjoy such simple but
monumental blessings. #LifeIsGood #HGAL

Day 161 – Scavenger Hunt
For today’s intention I prepared a scavenger hunt for Vinny.
After everyone was awake and we all had our coffee I presented Vinny with the
first piece of the puzzle. I had 11 clues prepared, each one with a rhyme I had
made up, printed and attached to a puzzle piece. Some clues took him to just
another clue…others took him to a clue and a surprise gift. As soon as I
presented him with the first clue – as he was reading – he just started
laughing and looked up to me and said “This is so cool, you are so creative.”
The clues took him all around the house inside, in and out of many different
rooms up and downstairs and even outside. When it came to the last one, he said
“No, I don’t want it to end.” We all just laughed. As he went to collect his
final gift, he was given it by Elijah dancing around and joking with him.
The main gift was a picture frame that had the three kids
each of whom held a sign. In age order they each held a sign with a single word
on it that spelled out: Best Dad Ever. It was extra special to Vinny since the
older two are not physically here for this Father’s Day. Anyhow, after Vinny’s
Father’s Day breakfast feast we all spent the day together as a family. Vinny
later mentioned to me that the scavenger hunt was one of the the nicest things
anyone has ever surprised him with and that he really appreciated it and had a
truly wonderful day. And that to me just made this day perfect! #HGAL

Day 160 – Strawberry Festival and more….
Today was packed full- busy but absolutely wonderful! Vinny
had to work for a bit so my mom and I went out to run errands and hang out
around town and decided to meet up with Vinny a bit later. It was overcast and
in the low 70’s, breezy and beautiful. We ended up going to the beach, having a
lobster roll and enjoying the view and hanging out for a bit.
We went to the local Strawberry Festival that had live
music, many local vendors selling their arts, crafts, aromatherapy products and
food. We walked around- purchased some stuff and just hung out talking and
relaxing. Then on the walk home we stopped to literally smell the roses that
were abundant and so very, very fragrant.
Afterwards, I had to drop Elijah off to the movies with his
buddies so I took that time to take my mom to the “Ocean Drive” and show her
the multitudes of local mansions, boats and views. We went to the state park at
the end of the drive where people were flying kites, walking the jetty and
playing sports.
We also stopped at a café I have been eyeing since I moved here
but just have never gone into. It is called The French Connection. We took some
pics, talked to the girl about my blog for a bit then ordered some “mini” French
macaroons, fruit tarts and crème puffs for us and the family. The girl that
worked there talked about a blog she wrote once and how she quit cause it was
so hard to maintain. I told her how proud I was of my blog and how much it meant
to me to do this in memory of my cousin and how it has also has expanded my
knowledge of the island and surrounding areas.
This was a fabulous Saturday. We are home now…ordered some
pizza, are enjoying some cocktails and ready to watch a movie. #Cheers #HGALFriday, June 19, 2015
Day 159 – Making Soap
Today my mom and I went to a local company down the road
from me called The Newport Sea Foam Trading Company to make soap. I just love
this store. The quaint atmosphere, soothing music, friendly service and inviting
aromas are so amazing. From the moment you walk in this store, you can walk to
the left to the room where you make homemade soap or to the right to go to the
main store with all of the soaps, scrubs, candles, body sprays and so on. I
have purchased products here before but never made my own soap. So today was
the day…
I chose the Cherry Almond scent with the lighthouse soap
mold, which represents Newport in a certain way to me. The employee heated up
the wax, I chose and added the scent and the color (glittery pink but of course).
After I poured it in the mold and paid, we took some pics after talking to the
girl that worked there for a few minutes and headed out to enjoy the rest of
our day.
This was truly a great day. This intention was a unique and
fun experience. Cheers to the weekend ahead!! #HGAL #HappyFridayThursday, June 18, 2015
Day 158 – Birthday Dress
Today was my birthday and it really was quite amazing!
Waking up to a bunch of birthday wishes, texts, phone calls and social media messages
was so awesome. I had friends sing me happy birthday first thing this morning, some
of the nicest messages and phone calls from my kids that a mom could ever ask
for and my hubby had flowers delivered. Then, when I got home later this
afternoon, I was met just inside the door with my son and two of his friends serenading
me. It was the neatest thing. While my son played the ukulele, his first friend
sang Happy Birthday in Spanish, then his other friend sang it in French, then
he sang it in English. Then together they sang it in all the languages. It was
the sweetest, most unique thing I have ever seen. He and his buddies all
chipped in to buy me a large bouquet of flowers and a cake. I was so touched
and completely surprised, it just melted my heart.
Then, my husband took me out for a romantic dinner and
drinks ocean side at a beautiful restaurant that I haven’t yet been to called:
The Mooring. For my intention, I pulled out a dress that I have had for well over a year but never worn. I literally pulled the tags off of it
tonight. I decided that although it felt too dressy for this small beach town,
tonight was the night. And the night was perfectly amazing. I was lucky enough to
welcome in the last year of my 30’s with the best guy I know. I enjoyed amazing
conversation, laughs, drinks and food. I thought about how blessed I am to welcome
in another year of life. On our walk home we stopped at Ben & Jerry’s for
ice cream and came home to sit on the deck to enjoy each others company and the
night air while I write this blog. #lifeisgood #HGAL

Day 157 – The Seabees
History: After the attack at Pearl Harbor, an Admiral was
given the go ahead of establishing Naval Construction Battalions at a base
located in Davisville, RI. It eventually contained 500 Quonset huts for
personnel, some of which are still standing (see pic below). Other bases were
thereafter constructed. These men and women of the Navy were responsible for
building airstrips, bridges, roads, gasoline storage tanks and Quonset huts for
warehouses, hospitals and housing. They often had to take part in fighting as
they tried to construct these buildings. They are actually still active today
(NMCB) and even have underwater construction teams and are truly an important
part of our armed forces.
Today, I was in the nearby town of North Kingstown and I stopped
to pick up lunch from a market deli. I drove away and was looking for a place
to sit and eat my lunch in my car. I pulled into a parking lot and started to
unwrap my lunch (ham and sweet potato Panini-yummy!). Anyhow, I looked up and saw in the distance a
strange statue that looked like a giant bee. Curious and thinking this could quite
possibly be a blog intention- after my lunch was done I just had to go see what
that was.
I pulled up and saw the large sign that read “Welcome Home
of Seabees Museum & Memorial Park – The place where it all started”. Well, I had no idea what a Seabee was and
what exactly was “started” here but I intended to find out. It clearly had
something to do with the military so of course I was intrigued. So I proceeded
to wander around, checking out the statues, buildings, equipment, plaques and
even a Chapel In The Pines. This Memorial Park was so beautiful! The day was
gorgeous – there was a slight breeze causing the extremely tall pine trees I
was surrounded by to sway and rustle. Crazy thing is, the nearby base must have been running air drills or something cause there were military planes flying overhead at the very time I was wandering around- making it all seem so much more real. I meandered through the area, reading some informative and historical
facts about what I was seeing and learned quite a bit.
This intention today is the epitome of this blog: Learning
to embrace all moments that present themselves in our lives daily – however
unplanned – to just live, learn, love and laugh. I know Heather would be so
happy and proud of this life lesson I have learned and wholeheartedly embrace
in her memory. #livingeverymoment #HGAL #seizingopportunity

Day 156 – Fudge It Is!
So….Did you know that today is National Fudge Day? I don’t
know why I’m intrigued with the National Days this country has but its crackin
me up and I’m having fun participating. Anyhow, with today being the day of
fudge and me just happening to live just down the road from more than one fudge
shop- what else is there to do but “when in Rome”????
My mom and I spent time at the beach today. It was still a
bit overcast but the sun played peekaboo and the air was moist and fairly warm.
We walked up and down talking and just hanging out. Afterwards, we went to the
fudge shop then walked down a pier nearby to hang out and take in other sites.
As we looked down we saw a few small crabs running about in the shallow part of
the water. I love nature in it’s raw, uninterrupted state.
Anyhow, after dinner everyone got to eat fudge for dessert
since I got a sampler pack with 6 different flavors and I even got some for a
friend of mine who had a bit of a rough day today. So- Happy Fudge Day readers-
I hope you find enjoyment in embracing one of the upcoming National Days it’s
really quite fun!! #HGAL Monday, June 15, 2015
Day 155 – Momma-N-Me
My mom is here! After picking her up from the airport, we
went and did some errands. When we got home, Elijah was here with his friend
and Vinny got here shortly thereafter. Vinny and I cooked a huge meal (a feast
really lol). We all ate a super yummy dinner and after went out to the deck and
just enjoyed some cocktails and catch up time. I decided for my intention today
I would just relax with my mom and enjoy her company. And that is exactly what
we did. We kicked our feet up and just hung out – outside, deck lights on, a
little rainy and foggy but still beautiful and enjoyable.
I told her so much about the island and what there is to do
around here and some plans we have in store for her. I look forward to our
upcoming summer plans and am just thankful and happy to have my mom in my life.
I thought so much about Heathers daughter today and sent her a text to let her
know she was on my mind and that I am always here for her. I can’t imagine what
life as a girl without your mom would be like. I am resolved to be an important
part of her life now and always and hope we only get closer as the years
progress. #HGAL

Day 154 – Pawtucket Red Sox
I got 12 tickets to the Pawtucket Red Sox game for today so
that my family, some friends and I could all go together for my intention. What
an awesome day! The weather was perfection, the seats were great and the entire
group was happy to be together…eating, drinking and enjoying each other and the
game.
I am not really a huge baseball fan but I love going to
baseball games- I love the entire scene, the experience. We have been to parks
around the country including Wrigley, Safeco Field, Bank One Ballpark and
Fenway as well as other minor league fields. Although this was minor league- it
was every bit as fun. It was an amazing way to get out with family and friends
and was just a solid great time. We made some plans for a future date which I
am looking forward to as well.
On the way home, Vinny and I stopped at Home Depot – picked up
some supplies and came home to pot an enormous Jasmine plant, and re-pot some
of our growing collection. We added deck lights and an outdoor chandelier and
as we sat there and took in the sunset, we just took time to appreciate the
beauty we are surrounded by. Happy Sunday!!#HGAL #familyfriendsandbaseball Saturday, June 13, 2015
Day 153 – Happy Saturday
Days like today are why people look forward to the weekends.
After a lovely breakfast, I took Elijah and his buddies to
set up their party they were having for a friend that’s moving away. I went to check
my booth to see what items have sold and it looked almost empty - so much has
sold – yay! Vin had to run to work for just a quick appointment – so I took
myself to Bristol, RI to a British Motorcar Festival. I drove around Bristol
for a while, taking in the ocean air and some of the most quaint and beautiful
sites. The shops, the parks, the bridges, the water views and hundreds of boats, the people and the decorative touches made
this quite possibly one of the prettiest towns I have seen yet- (wish I could’ve
taken pics but I was driving). The festival was in full swing, with British cars
everywhere and on display for all to see and enjoy.
After that, I met Vinny back at the house and we went towards
Providence to run a couple of errands. After those were done, we were trying to
decide on what to get for a late lunch. We drove by an Olive Garden and I said “Hey,
Olive Garden….we haven’t eaten there in forever. That was Heather’s favorite
restaurant- we could go there for an intention.” Vinny thought that was a great
idea too. When we ordered our drinks we did a “cheers” to Heather. Vinny noticed a really neat question on his coaster for his drink about family that we discussed for a while. I ordered
something I had never had before and so did Vinny in honor of the blog and
trying new things and were both extremely happy with our choices.
We went next to catch the new Jurassic World movie. The theatre was packed full, the
crowd was rowdy (in a good way) and at the end everyone clapped and cheered. On
the way home as we talked about our day today and plans tomorrow, I thought
about how wonderful life truly is and I just put my head back and smiled.

Day 152 – Oysters with Friends
So….today was a busy but GREAT day!! Tonight we had plans
with our friends to go to the local Navy Officers Club with Jen and Carlos. Well,
by the time Vinny got home from work it was a little too late for that so we
changed our plans and headed to a local restaurant on the ocean just down the
road. Jen and Carlos are such a great couple. Between the four of us there is
never a quiet moment, which I just love- everything just flows so naturally. We
sat outside on the ocean front and watched an early evening fog roll in which
for some reason was really super cool to me.
Earlier when we realized we had to change plans, Jen had
suggested this place that Vinny and I had never been to because she said they
had great oysters and she thought it would be great for my intention. She knew
I had never actually eaten them. Elijah loves oysters and I bought some the
other day at the farmers market for him, but just couldn’t bring myself to eat
them. Anyhow, when we got there they ordered a dozen and Jen and I had a
conversation about embracing life and trying new things and she said she turned
away from trying them for a long time too but decided to give them a go and
loved them. When I tried them I absolutely was shocked to realize that I LOVED
them as well!!! I ate a few- in addition to my lobster roll and was so excited
to have found another new food love. LOL
Anyhow, we talked about the blog and how much it has
impacted me and actually her as well which was a great feeling. We all picked
up our glasses and raised our cups. The four of us toasted to Heather – we toasted
to our lives here in Newport that I feel so blessed for our paths to be
crossing over yet again. So this was a great evening – great intention – great friends
and I look forward to another amazing weekend ahead. #HGAL #newexperiencesThursday, June 11, 2015
Day 151 - Cliff Walk
Today I asked Elijah to join me on a scenic walk at a famous
tourist attraction located right here in my town called the Cliff Walk for my
intention. This 3 ½ mile walk goes along a paved path where on one side it’s a
cliff that overlooks the ocean and the other side walks along a total of 64
private properties, many of which are famous mansions that are also available
to tour.
This is the most beautiful walk and I just love the many
flowers, trees, and nature’s unintentional cutout photo ops and some added props
- some of which include stairs that lead you very close to the water, large
misshapen trees that double as some sort of resting area, offering you a seat
on their massive curved trunks, benches, a brick archway, large beautiful gates
and columns, etc. Anyhow, it is an extremely peaceful walk even though many
times it is quite busy with tourists. Last summer I often walked from my house,
walked the Cliff Walk and walked home for a great afternoon workout. But today,
this was a last minute idea and was the perfect way to spend my intention.
We were actually on our way to pick up something to eat and
head home. As I was driving I thought how perfect the weather was for a cliff
walk. Whereas normally I would have probably just continued on with my previous
plans, this blog and my intentional living made me stop- make the last minute
suggestion to Elijah- and take an extended, absolutely beautiful afternoon
stroll with my son. I chatted with a lovely couple for a bit as we watched
Elijah climb down onto the rocks for added adventure. I love meeting and
talking to people, mingling about and just enjoying life’s bonuses.
Today’s intention was beautiful and refreshing. I hope you
find a way to stop for a moment today and take in life’s beauty and let it
refresh you as well. #livewhileyoucan #refresh #livewithintention #HGAL

Day 150 – Farmers Market
For today’s intention, Elijah and I went to our local
farmers market. It is truly one of the best I’ve been to. They have live entertainment,
fresh food cooking and ice cream for immediate enjoyment. Not to mention the
abundance of fresh items for sale ranging from seafood, eggs, baked goods,
produce, cheeses, flowers and plants, aromatherapy products and more!! We just
took our time and wandered through each and every booth, sampling products and
chatting about. Elijah got a piece of wood fired pizza to munch on as we
wandered.
We ended up buying some oysters, produce, French pastry, a
couple of sweets that we have never tried before and some amazing ginger cheese.
The weather was perfect- it was in a shaded area and the ocean breeze was
roaming through. It was a great afternoon and an awesome intention. #cheers

Day 149 – Son Time
Today was so, so busy. It was a great day but just
incredibly jam packed. But I did find time to carve out gym time which was very
nice. Anyhow, I found myself sitting down after dinner and saying “Ok,
intention time.” Just then I realized that Vinny and I were in the living room
and Elijah was in his room. I assumed he was playing video games and I figured
for my intention I would go and join him. I am most definitely NOT a video game
person but the kids and I had so much fun on Mother’s Day playing video games
together for a portion of the day, that I figured I would give it another try.
I went into his room and he was actually just watching a movie. I asked him, “Hey hon, wanna play a video
game with me?” He sprung up, smiling and was shocked but instantly said yes. I told him
whatever he wanted to play was fine with me. So we played Tekken Tag Team Tournament.
I love hanging out with my kiddos- they are just so fun to
be around. Elijah taught me a bunch of stuff and I had fun playing for a while.
The best part was just spending time with him and having fun- and really…..isn’t
that the joy of life??? Family, Friends, Food and Fun- Embrace it now and every
day-- #HGAL #LiveLaughLove #kiddotime

Day 148 – Poetic Photo
Heather’s husband sent me a family photo with the kids and
grandkids they all just took. I was so happy to have received it. They all look
so amazing. Not only are they a beautiful family indeed but they look genuinely
happy. It is so refreshing to know that they are able to find happiness when
and where they can. I can only imagine that this was not completely easy as I
think this may be the first family photo since Heather passed. I am proud of
them for making this happen and finding a way to smile through it and take
comfort in the love of each other.
#HGALalways #familybond #lovethispicturesomuch
I love how the dad is in the middle with the family
surrounding him - that just looks so loving to me. For today’s intention I
decided to write a poem about what I see. It’s not long. I just wanted to write
in a different way about this photo. I hope you enjoy it…
With beautiful
smiles they stand together
A family united, though
still missing Heather
Through this storm
- they have stayed so strong
Although some
nights may still seem long
Right in the middle
the dad beams with pride
With his loving
family, surrounding every side
Arms all around
and hands held tight
This family is
still so full of life
When you see this
photo- you can just feel the love
And imagine the smile,
shining above.

Day 147 – True New Englander
Happy Sunday!! After a nice big family breakfast and some
morning chores we all made our plans for the day. Elijah was off to meet some
friends and Vinny and I decided to just bum around the beach for the day. It’s
so amazing being able to get there in a matter of moments- our beach chairs and
a couple of beach supplies remain in the trunk at all times at this point. There
are so many beaches around to explore but for now the one by our house is just
my go to beach, it’s picturesque and simply beautiful.
So today for my intention, we decided to try the lobster rolls at the beach since they were voted #1 on the island. We have our favorite spot to get lobster rolls and don’t venture away from that place at all. But today, for the blog- we are giving another place a try. The special is for 2 lobster rolls and fries for $12.97 which seemed like a lot of food for very inexpensive (considering it is lobster we’re talking about) but we went in for just that. We each had our lobster rolls and fries and may I say – we now have a new favorite place for lobster rolls! They were so delish!!! So much lobster meat and perfectly fresh! I brought along some elephant ears I got yesterday from the fudge shop while I was strolling around with Jen so by the time we made it to our chairs and got comfy…dessert was served.
After a few hours on the beach we headed home. The weather is picture perfect…sunny and 70’s with a very slight breeze. People are everywhere and I just so enjoy the sights and sounds of my little town. Beach time, seafood, sweets and fun - today I felt like a true New Englander and it was glorious. #HGAL #embraceeverysingledayoflife #beachbum

Day 146 – Chowder Fest
The Annual Chowder Fest is here today in Newport. I have
never had clam chowder- ever. It just didn’t look appetizing to me so I never
tried it. I decided however for my intention that today was the day to give it
a go. Elijah is off sailing for the day with his friends’ family. Vinny had to
work today for a bit. So I was to meet up with Jen and Carlos at the festival
at Fort Adams. There were way more people than we had anticipated. By the time
I got there and was in line to buy tickets, they were holding the line up for a
while cause they said too many people were there and the lines for chowder,
drinks etc were unbearably long. So we decided to leave.
On the way out as I was talking to Jen and Carlos- I decided
that since I was already resolved to try chowder, I wanted to keep that as my intention.
So we dropped Carlos off and Jen and I decided to go. I googled the best place
in Newport for chowder and a bunch of reviews came up for The Black Pearl,
which I’ve never been too. So that’s where we were headed. I just parked back
at my house and we walked, it was only a few blocks away. It’s a beautiful day
and as usual on these glorious weekends, there are thousands of people out and
about. So, I had my first go at clam chowder and afterwards we split a piece of
chocolate pecan pie with ice cream….yum! Loved the chowder- loved the pie! I
love that I stretched out to try something new cause something that never
really appealed to me turned out to be really quite good.
So afterwards, Jen and I walked the town- went to a couple
of different spots on the harbor, walked along a pier and stood at the ocean
chatting for a bit. We walked through a building where they are building a
large ship – which was quite a sight (seeing the bones of a huge ship). We mosied
through some shops and just enjoyed our day. She and Carlos have plans tonight
as do Vinny and I so we had to go to get ready for our evenings. We made some
plans for a future date and that was that. What a magnificent day- and I am
looking forward to an amazing night as well!! #HGAL

Day 145 – Sparkling Night
Today, one of my friends as we said goodbye told me to “Have
a sparkling weekend”. I smiled so big and
realized what an awesome way that was to say it. I surely plan to have a great
weekend indeed but I thought for an intention tonight I would kick things off
exactly as they were wished for me…..sparkling!
We literally just bought fireworks the other day for the
upcoming going away party for Elijah’s buddy and I thought that was a great way
to bring on my “sparkling” weekend. Vinny and I grabbed some sparklers and went
outside and lit them up. I don’t know what it is about sparkles but they just
make me smile. Vinny and I were laughing and kidding around as people walked by
us on this fairly busy Friday night in our town. And with that….my sparkling weekend begins!

Day 144 – Fun Gift
Today as I was running Elijah around to gather supplies for
a surprise going away party he is throwing for his friend – I ran into the
coolest t-shirt. It says “Trophy Husband”. Normally, I would have giggled and probably
walked by but today I saw it and said – there it is….my intention. I bought the
shirt for Vinny. He isn’t home yet but I’m sure he will love it when I give it
to him later. Obviously, it’s meant to be a funny kind of shirt but I do feel
like a true winner to be Vinny’s wife and truly blessed to have him in my life these last 12 years- so to me it’s true.
It’s cool too since just recently he bought me a shirt that
said “Wifey” that I absolutely loved! At some point this weekend I’m going to
suggest we take pictures together with these shirts on- that would make for a
cute, fun couples pic. Anyhow, good intention – good day. #cheers

Day 143 – Run Run Run
Did you know that today is National Runners Day? I was out
and about earlier and stopped at the beach after running some errands. I was
thinking about what I was to do for my intention today. As I sat there I was scrolling through my phone and saw it.
Running is not my work out of choice. I have family and friends who running is
a huge part of their life and they just love it. But it’s not for me. I have
gone jogging before but I honestly just got bored. I’m more of a group exercise
class kinda girl – you know Zumba, Spin, Kickboxing, Yoga or whatever.
But in the spirit of the day and for my intention I decided
to take off my flip flops and run for a bit on the beach. I wasn’t dressed for
running per se but I didn’t mind a bit. It was windy and kinda cool out. I did
a fast jog/run with my flip flops in my hand. I loved feeling the soft sand
underneath my feet. Listening to the ocean waves, wind blowing through my hair
– I found myself smiling so big as I ran down the beach- it was really quite
fun. I don’t think this will transform me into some sort of runner now, but I’d
be willing to maybe take up running a couple of times a month on the beach for
sure. #HGAL #embracelifewhileyoucan #feetinthesandwindinmyhair

Day 142 – Practice Makes Perfect
Elijah has another event coming up in school tomorrow. He is
involved in a group project presentation on Global Warming. Since he does an
absolute uncanny, spot on imitation of the President – they have him dressing
up and presenting their information to the class as if he was the President giving a speech.
Everything about his imitation is perfect, the voice- the gestures- he even
slightly resembles him which is hysterical. He actually had the privilege to meet
the President a few years back when he made an appearance at his school in NC
and Elijah was one of a group selected to meet and greet the President and
shake his hand.
“Shoot for the moon – even if you miss you’ll land amongst the stars”
Anyhow, for today’s intention I reminded Elijah of the old
adage…. “Practice Makes Perfect” and invited him to practice with me while I
was ironing his outfit for the presentation and getting everything together.
Vinny and I have always encouraged our boys to give all activities, hobbies,
goals and projects large or small 100% and take pride in everything they do and
I must admit he should be quite proud of his performance tomorrow because he
did an amazing job during practice.
I am reminded of a saying that has always been one of my
favorites:“Shoot for the moon – even if you miss you’ll land amongst the stars”
Set a goal and go for it. Take on a project and complete it.
Take pride in all things you produce. Never be afraid to try. And always
remember that practice really does make perfect. #HGAL #liveyourlife

Day 141 - Dancing in the Rain
So, today was not my favorite day. Not the worlds worse day
but surely not my favorite either. That’s ok- I kept my head up and made it
through just fine. I kept reminding myself that how a person handles an off day
builds and displays their character. I smiled as much as possible and by the
time Vinny and I were in the kitchen making dinner together early this evening,
music playing in the background, talking about our day and enjoying each others
company- everything was perfect. When we called Elijah for dinner, as we were
making our plates we all ended up dancing around for a few and just laughed at
ourselves being silly. Bruno Mars “Uptown Funk” was playing and that is an easy
song to just smile and dance away.
It was raining outside, I could hear the rain bouncing off
the skylights and at that moment it hit me. I wanted to embrace this moment –
this moment of happiness with my family – for my intention… I wanted to just dance
in the rain. I went out to the deck (yes it is covered) but the rain was coming
in just a bit sideways and I just went in. I was dancing around, ocean and city
in view – it was cool outside but I did not mind one bit. I was in a great mood
and just enjoyed it! It’s moments like this that need to be savored in our
lives…. Family….Food….and Dancing in the Rain!! #HGAL
