I live in a small beach resort community. There are shops,
harbors and beaches everywhere. I just moved here this past summer. Today,
although it was overcast and 39 degrees, I bundled up and went for a walk. I
walked to a place I haven’t discovered in my past walks. It was maybe half a
mile down the road from me. There was a little beach area, large park and
benches everywhere with a beautiful view of the ocean, a local island and local
tourist attractions. The bridge was nearby and as I sat on the bench for about
30 minutes, I prayed silently and closed my eyes for a bit to listen to the
calming waves as they softly caressed the many rocks and small cobblestone wall
I selected to sit by. Clearly from the storm we had a few days ago, there were
many seashells that had been thrown over the low set wall and onto the ground. I
gazed at those for a moment and admired the colors and shapes in all their
beauty. I walked around the path carved out around the water and over to a
beautiful statue honoring a fearless battle leader from the late 1700’s. I
surely love the history of this town. I listened to the birds, felt the cool
breeze on my face then walked to a local coffee shop for a hot cup of coffee.
You were here with me today Heather. And thus begins our journey. I love you.
