I have been looking forward to this day for a while now.
Last year I didn’t make it to the polar plunge so I was determined to make it
this year. Unfortunately, I still have a fairly nasty cold and didn’t think it
was a good choice to actually do the polar plunge this year either. I was a bit
bummed but you know what?? Life happens. I always have next year- I will aim to
do it for sure in 2017.
But I didn’t want to be a “Debbie Downer” about it. It is
what it is and I have so much coming up that I really don’t want to get any
sicker by plunging into freezing temperatures and running out into cold air. So
I asked the boys if they would come with me (Vinny had to work) cause I at
least wanted to make it down there to see it. They agreed and I was still
excited to go. We stopped for breakfast, grabbed some nice hot coffee to go and
headed on down.
There were thousands of people there!! People of all
backgrounds and ages were there ready for the big dip. There were people in
their swimsuits, pj’s, people dressed up in themes (we saw a bunch of Waldo’s,
cowboys, bikers and even one guy dressed up like an astronaut). Everyone was so
excited and the beach was abuzz!! I ran into some people I know which was fun
as well.
At exactly noon – everyone ran in. From one side of the
beach all the way to the other, thousands of people started screaming and
charged in. Some ran in with their kids, animals and some even carried huge
flags as they went in. It was quite the scene!! Even though we didn’t
participate by actually running in the water, the boys and I agreed that we
still had fun and just being there seeing this was an awesome thing to do on
New Year’s Day.
So with that I’ll say- let this fabulous year commence.
Cheers!! #HGAL
